Roodebok is a noun that refers to a type of antelope native to southern Africa, particularly found in countries such as South Africa and Namibia. The scientific name for Roodebok is Pelea capreolus. Often also known as the grey rhebok, this species belongs to the Bovidae family and the Antilopini tribe.
The Roodebok is characterized by its medium-sized stature, with males standing at around 65-75 cm (25-30 inches) tall at the shoulder, while females are slightly smaller. Both sexes possess long, slender, and pointed horns that curve backward, which can measure up to 30 cm (12 inches) in length in males. The coat of the Roodebok is predominantly gray, blending with a reddish hue and displaying a lighter underbelly. This coloration helps provide effective camouflage in the rocky and mountainous terrain where they inhabit.
Primarily herbivorous, the Roodebok feeds on a varied diet consisting of grasses, as well as leaves, herbs, and other plant matter.
