The Republic of Niger, commonly known as Niger, is a landlocked country located in Western Africa. Niger's political system is characterized by a multi-party democracy, with the President as the head of state and government. The President is directly elected for a five-year term and appoints the Prime Minister. The country also has a National Assembly, which consists of representatives elected through a proportional representation system.
