The term "Ursus arctos" refers to the scientific species name for brown bears, while "horribilis" is derived from Latin and translates to "horrible" or "terrifying," indicating the formidable and awe-inspiring nature of this particular subspecies.
Grizzly bears are renowned for their imposing size and strength, with adult males typically weighing between 400 and 600 kilograms (880 to 1,300 pounds) and standing approximately 2.5 meters (8 feet) tall when on their hind legs. They possess distinctive physical features, including a hump of muscle on their shoulders, which supports their immense strength for activities like digging and running.
