A whitetail jackrabbit is a species of rabbit scientifically known as Lepus townsendii. It is a large-sized hare belonging to the family Leporidae, distinguished by its characteristic long ears, powerful hind legs, and a short, fluffy white tail. This species is predominantly found in the western parts of North America, particularly in the arid and semi-arid regions of the United States and Mexico.
Whitetail jackrabbits are known for their exceptional speed, agility, and endurance, allowing them to escape potential predators in open habitats. With an average length ranging from 21 to 27 inches and a weight between 4 to 8 pounds, these jackrabbits are noticeably larger than regular rabbits. Their fur is generally a mix of shades of brown, blending with the environment and providing camouflage.
