TMVP stands for Thamil Makkal Viduthalai Pulikal, which translates to "Tamil People's Liberation Tigers" in English. TMVP is a political party in Sri Lanka that primarily represents the interests of Tamil-speaking people in the country. It was founded in 2004 as a breakaway faction of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE). The LTTE was a militant organization that fought for an independent Tamil state in Sri Lanka.
The TMVP evolved from being a militant group to a political party after the LTTE was defeated by the Sri Lankan government in 2009, ending the civil war in the country.
