Etymology of THOGOTOVIRUS
The word "Thogotovirus" is derived from the combination of two main elements: "Thogoto" and "virus".
1. Thogoto: Thogoto is a place in Kenya, specifically a village located in the Thika District, Central Province. In the 1950s, an outbreak of a previously unknown disease was reported in this region, causing illness in both humans and animals. It was in Thogoto that this virus was first isolated and described, leading to the naming of the disease as Thogoto virus.
2. Virus: The term "virus" has a Latin origin and dates back to the 14th century. It comes from the Latin word "virus", which means "poison" or "slimy liquid". The term was initially used to describe any harmful or poisonous substance.
