Stirpiculture, derived from the Latin word "stirps" meaning "seed" or "offspring," refers to a eugenic practice aimed at improving the human race through controlled breeding and selective reproduction. It is a concept and term popularized in the late 19th and early 20th centuries, primarily associated with Francis Galton, a British scientist who pioneered the field of eugenics.
Stirpiculture involves consciously and systematically selecting specific individuals with desirable traits and encouraging them to procreate, while discouraging those with perceived undesirable traits from reproducing. The idea behind stirpiculture is rooted in the belief that hereditary factors significantly impact an individual's physical and mental qualities, and by carefully controlling the genetic pool, a superior human race can be cultivated.
Proponents of stirpiculture believed that by promoting the reproduction of individuals with characteristics such as intelligence, physical strength, and moral values, and discouraging those with traits like genetic diseases or low intelligence, future generations would exhibit overall improved qualities.
