Phil Bredesen is an American politician and businessman who served as the 48th governor of Tennessee from 2003 to 2011. Born on November 21, 1943, in Oceanport, New Jersey, Bredesen is a member of the Democratic Party. He earned a degree in physics from Harvard University and later studied business at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
Bredesen's political career began in 1987 when he was elected mayor of Nashville, Tennessee, serving two terms until 1999.
