Etymology of KYANIZATION
The word "kyanization" is derived from "kyanize", which in turn comes from the name of the Scottish engineer, John Kyan. In the early 19th century, Kyan developed a method to preserve timber by impregnating it with a solution of corrosive sublimate (a compound containing mercury). This process, known as kyanization, was an effective means of protecting wood from decay and wood-boring insects. Consequently, the term "kyanization" emerged to describe the treatment itself.
