Francium is a highly reactive chemical element with the symbol "Fr" and atomic number 87. It belongs to the alkali metal group on the periodic table and is the second rarest naturally occurring element on Earth. Francium is an extremely unstable element, which makes it difficult to study and obtain in significant quantities. It is considered a radioactive element, as all of its isotopes are radioactive.
Physically, francium is a soft, silvery-white metal that rapidly tarnishes in air, turning black due to its interaction with oxygen. It is also highly volatile and easily vaporizes when exposed to heat. Due to its extreme reactivity, it reacts violently with water and other elements like oxygen and halogens. For this reason, francium is considered one of the most reactive elements known to man.
In terms of its atomic structure, francium has a single valence electron, making it highly eager to lose that electron in order to achieve a stable state. Francium is very rare in nature, often occurring as a byproduct of the decay of other radioactive elements such as uranium and thorium. Due to its scarcity and radioactivity, there are no significant applications of francium outside of scientific research.
