CROS, short for Contralateral Routing of Signals, refers to a method used in audiology to assist individuals with unilateral hearing loss. It is a type of hearing aid system designed specifically for individuals who have little to no hearing capability in one ear, while maintaining normal hearing in the other ear.
The main purpose of a CROS system is to amplify sounds from the deaf or impaired ear and transmit them wirelessly to the healthy ear. This is accomplished by placing a microphone on the impaired ear, which picks up sounds and transmits them to a receiver worn on the opposite ear. The receiver then processes and amplifies the signals so that the individual can perceive the sounds through their functional ear.
