Conite is a mineral that belongs to the pyroxene group, characterized by its crystalline structure and chemical composition. It is mainly composed of calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum, with the chemical formula (Ca,Mg,Fe,Al)(Mg,Fe,Al)Si2O6. Conite crystallizes in the monoclinic system, typically forming slender prismatic or columnar crystals that can vary in color, commonly appearing in shades of green-gray to brown.
This mineral often occurs in metamorphic rocks associated with high-pressure and low-temperature environments, such as blueschists and eclogites. Its occurrence may also be found in certain igneous rocks, including peridotites and diorites. Conite's distinctive crystal structure, with two oblique cleavages intersecting at approximately 87 and 93 degrees, allows for the identification of this mineral.

Conite possesses an uneven to conchoidal fracture, and its fine-grained to compact texture often appears massive.
