XIAP (X-linked inhibitor of apoptosis) is a protein that plays a crucial role in regulating cell death and apoptosis in living organisms. The acronym XIAP signifies its association with the X chromosome. It is a member of the inhibitor of apoptosis protein (IAP) family, which are important regulators of apoptotic pathways in cells.
XIAP functions mainly by inhibiting caspases, a key group of enzymes involved in the execution phase of apoptosis.
