The "X" in their name indicates their experimental and innovative nature, as these submarines were among the first to incorporate advanced technologies and unique operational features. They were considerably smaller in size compared to conventional submarines, with their length ranging between 50 and 56 meters. Additionally, X class submarines usually had a complement of only six crew members, further emphasizing their specialized nature.
