However, viral pneumonias may also present with additional symptoms such as a runny or stuffy nose, sore throat, headache, and body aches. Severe cases of viral pneumonia can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), requiring hospitalization, intensive care, and sometimes even mechanical ventilation.
Treatment of viral pneumonias primarily focuses on supportive care, aimed at alleviating symptoms and assisting the body in fighting the infection. This may include bed rest, hydration, over-the-counter pain relievers, cough suppressants, and antipyretics. In some cases, antiviral medications may be prescribed, particularly for severe cases or when caused
