The Vijayanagara Empire was a powerful South Indian Hindu kingdom that flourished between the 14th and 16th centuries. The empire was established by Harihara I and his brother Bukka Raya I in 1336, who were initially appointed as governors by the Kakatiya dynasty.
Known for its grandeur, military strength, and cultural achievements, the Vijayanagara Empire played a crucial role in preserving and promoting Hindu traditions while fending off various Islamic invasions from the Deccan Sultanates and Delhi Sultanate. The Vijayanagara Empire was characterized by its administrative efficiency, strong military, and prosperous economy. However, the empire faced its decline after the catastrophic Battle of Talikota in 1565, where a coalition of Deccan Sultanates defeated Vijayanagara forces. This led to a fragmentation of the empire and subsequent internal strife, ultimately rendering it vulnerable to further invasions.
