The main purpose of UNPROFOR was to provide protection and humanitarian aid to the civilian population, monitor ceasefires, and facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid during the Yugoslav Wars.
UNPROFOR's mission was to maintain peace and stability in the region by acting as a neutral arbiter between the warring parties. It had a mandate to use force, if necessary, to protect civilians and ensure compliance with ceasefire agreements.
