The United States Health Care Financing Administration, commonly referred to as HCFA, was an agency within the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services that existed from 1977 to 2001. Its primary responsibility was to oversee and administer various federal health care programs, particularly those related to Medicare and Medicaid.
The HCFA played a critical role in the financing and delivery of health care services for millions of Americans.
