Titus Vespasianus Augustus, also known as Titus, was a Roman emperor who ruled from 79 to 81 AD. He was born on December 30, 39 AD, and was the eldest son of the emperor Vespasian. In the Roman period, the name "Titus Vespasianus Augustus" refers specifically to Titus during his reign as emperor.
Titus was renowned for his military campaigns, especially in the Roman province of Judaea (modern-day Israel), where he successfully led the Roman forces in the First Jewish-Roman War. During his father's reign, Titus served as a commander in the Roman legions and played a significant role in the suppression of the Great Jewish Revolt.
As emperor, Titus was known for his generosity and popularity among the Roman people. He enacted various social and cultural programs, which included funding public works projects and organizing lavish games and ceremonies for the entertainment of the populace. Despite his relatively short reign, Titus managed to restore the city of Rome after the catastrophic fire which occurred during his father's reign, known as the Great Fire of Rome in 64 AD.
Titus Vespasianus Augustus died on September 13, 81 AD, unexpectedly ending his reign and leading to the subsequent succession of his younger brother, Domitian.
