Thymocytes are derived from hematopoietic stem cells in the bone marrow and migrate to the thymus, where they undergo a complex maturation process. Within the thymus, thymocytes proliferate and differentiate into various stages before ultimately becoming fully functional T-cells.
During their maturation within the thymus, thymocytes are subjected to positive and negative selection mechanisms.
