Thomas Jonathan Jackson, commonly known as Stonewall Jackson, was a prominent military figure during the American Civil War. Born on January 21, 1824, in Clarksburg, Virginia, he is renowned for his strategic prowess and leadership skills as a Confederate general.
Jackson’s military career began before the war, as he served in the U.S. Army and later became a professor at the Virginia Military Institute. However, he gained fame on the battlefield during the Civil War, particularly during the First Battle of Bull Run in July 1861. It was during this battle that Jackson earned his nickname "Stonewall" due to his steadfast defense that seemingly stood like a stone wall.
Known for his strict discipline and military tactics, Jackson played a pivotal role in various significant battles throughout the war, including the Valley Campaign, the Second Battle of Bull Run, and the Battle of Chancellorsville.
