It primarily emerged as a response to the rising concerns of food scarcity and the need to nourish the rapidly expanding human population.
This revolution was characterized by the adoption of modern farming techniques, such as the use of high-yielding varieties (HYVs) of crops, advanced irrigation systems, and increased use of chemical fertilizers and pesticides. The introduction of these methods aimed to improve crop productivity, reduce vulnerability to pests and diseases, and optimize land and water resources.
The Green Revolution was particularly successful in countries like India, Mexico, and the Philippines, resulting in a substantial increase in rice and wheat production. This, in turn, led to improved food security, reduced hunger, and boosted economic growth in these regions.
