Submucous resection is a surgical procedure used for the treatment of certain nasal and sinus conditions. It involves the removal of abnormal or excessive tissues in the nasal passages and sinuses beneath the mucous membrane lining.
This procedure is typically performed to address issues such as nasal polyps, nasal septum deviation, or chronic sinusitis that have not responded to non-surgical treatments. Submucous resection is often recommended when the abnormal tissue growth or blockage is situated underneath the surface layer of the mucous membrane.
During the procedure, the surgeon makes an incision inside the nostril and carefully separates the mucous membrane from the underlying tissues.
