The Soviet battleship Parizhskaya Kommuna was a prominent naval vessel of the early 20th century. With a length of approximately 168 meters and a displacement of around 23,000 tons, it belonged to the Gangut-class battleships, which were the first dreadnought battleships constructed in the Soviet Union during the early 20th century.
Parizhskaya Kommuna was built by the Bolshevik shipyard in Petrograd (now Saint Petersburg) and was commissioned in 1915. It was heavily armed with a main battery consisting of 12 12-inch (305 mm) guns, which were located in four triple turrets. This significant firepower, combined with its adequate armor protection, made it a formidable asset in naval warfare.
The battleship played a significant role during the Russian Revolution and later during World War I. It participated in various naval engagements, including the Battle of Moon Sound in 1917, where it successfully supported the Baltic Fleet's operations against German naval forces. Parizhskaya Kommuna also played a symbolic role during the Russian Revolution, as its sailors were involved in the storming of the Winter Palace in Petrograd.
Following the October Revolution in 1917, Parizhskaya Kommuna was renamed Petropavlovsk, in honor of the commanders of the frigate Russia, Grigory Spiridov and Matvei Spiridov. The battleship continued to serve in the Soviet Navy until the mid-1920s, after which it was decommissioned and ultimately scrapped in 1932.
