Slime mould refers to a rather peculiar organism that falls under the classification of a eukaryotic microorganism. Slime moulds can produce spore-bearing structures known as sporangia, which are responsible for reproduction. These spore-containing structures can take on a variety of shapes and colors, including stalk-like shapes, cups, or even tiny spheres.
Although slime moulds have been described as fungi in the past, they are not directly related to fungi and have their own distinct characteristics. Despite their name, slime moulds are not harmful to humans or plants and play a vital role in the ecosystem by aiding in the decomposition of organic matter, recycling nutrients, and contributing to soil fertility.
