Silvia Cartwright is a New Zealand jurist and former Governor-General. Born on November 7, 1943, in Dunedin, New Zealand, she is widely recognized for her contributions to the legal profession and public service.
Cartwright’s early career was marked by her involvement in law. She first studied law at the University of Otago, graduating with honors. Admitted to the bar in 1967, she embarked on a legal career distinguished by her commitment to human rights, equality, and justice. Cartwright’s judicial career began in 1989 when she was appointed as the first female High Court judge in New Zealand.
