The seven capital sins, also known as the seven deadly sins, refer to a list of offenses or vices that are considered to be the root causes of other immoral behaviors. These sins have been widely recognized and categorized in religious and philosophical teachings, particularly in Christianity.
The first of these sins is pride, which manifests as an exaggerated sense of self-importance and an excessive desire for admiration. Greed, the second sin, involves an intense craving for wealth and possessions beyond actual needs. Lust, the third sin, represents an uncontrolled, overwhelming desire for sexual gratification. Envy, the fourth sin, involves feelings of jealousy and resentment towards others' accomplishments or possessions.
The fifth sin, wrath, is the intense and uncontrolled anger or rage that leads to hostility and even violence. Gluttony, the sixth sin, pertains to excessive consumption of food, drink, or any other substance, without regard for one's well-being or the needs of others. Lastly, sloth, the seventh sin, refers to laziness, a lack of motivation, or the unwillingness to make an effort to accomplish tasks.
These sins are considered cardinal because they are seen as the source or foundation of many other sins and moral failings. By recognizing and avoiding these vices, individuals are believed to be better equipped to lead virtuous and morally upright lives.
