During schizogony, the parent cell undergoes multiple rounds of nuclear division without undergoing cytokinesis (cell division), resulting in the formation of multiple nuclei within a single cytoplasmic mass. Eventually, the cell membrane constricts and divides, allocating each nucleus into a separate daughter cell. These daughter cells are often identical clones of the parent organism.
Schizogony is commonly observed in some groups of parasites such as the Plasmodium species, which are responsible for causing malaria. In the case of Plasmodium, schizogony occurs within the host's red blood cells, leading to the destruction of infected cells and the release of numerous new parasites.
