The Royal Albanian Army refers to the military forces of the Kingdom of Albania during its period of existence from 1928 to 1939. Established under the administration of King Zog I, the army served as the primary defense force of the country and was responsible for maintaining internal security, safeguarding borders, and protecting national interests.
Comprising various branches, including infantry, cavalry, artillery, and engineers, the Royal Albanian Army was organized and trained to defend against potential external threats or invasions. It had a standing force as well as a reserve component. The army personnel, under direct command of the king, were tasked with upholding the sovereignty of the nation and ensuring the stability of the government.
The Royal Albanian Army underwent modernization efforts during its existence, adopting tactics and equipment influenced by its neighboring armies and receiving assistance from foreign military advisors. Despite its limited resources and relatively small size, the army played a significant role in preserving the territorial integrity of Albania.
However, the Royal Albanian Army's existence came to an end when Albania was invaded and occupied by Italy in April 1939. The subsequent annexation of Albania led to the disbandment of the army and its absorption into the Italian armed forces, effectively marking the conclusion of its role in Albanian history.
