The initial symptoms of Rocky Mountain spotted fever usually appear within two weeks of a tick bite. The fever is often accompanied by chills, fatigue, and general malaise. Headaches are common and may be severe, often appearing before the rash. The rash typically develops two to five days after the onset of symptoms and usually starts on the wrists and ankles and spreads to the rest of the body.
