Etymology of RHODE ISLAND
The word "Rhode Island" has an interesting etymology. Contrary to popular belief, the name "Rhode Island" does not come from the fact that the region is an island. It originates from the Dutch phrase "Roodt Eylandt" meaning "Red Island".
