Raglanite is a mineral that belongs to the pyroxene group and is a rare titanium-bearing silicate. It derives its name from the location of its discovery, which is the Raglan deposit in Quebec, Canada. The mineral commonly occurs as small, brown to black prismatic crystals or as aggregates in igneous rocks, particularly gabbro and anorthosite. Its chemical composition consists primarily of sodium, iron, titanium, aluminum, and silicon, with trace amounts of other elements.
In terms of physical properties, raglanite is typically opaque and has a submetallic luster. Its hardness on the Mohs scale ranges from 5.5 to 6.5, making it moderately hard. It also exhibits a distinct brown streak and a specific gravity of approximately 3.1. Under polarized light, raglanite displays pleochroism, with different colors observed when viewed from different crystallographic directions. Its crystal system is monoclinic, presenting prismatic or tabular crystals with parallel striations on the faces.
