Doctors, nurses, and other healthcare professionals closely monitor and support preemies in this controlled environment. They may receive assistance with breathing through respiratory support devices, such as mechanical ventilators or continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) machines. Additionally, preemies may receive specialized nutrition, including intravenous fluids or tube feedings, to support their growth and development.
Because preemies often have underdeveloped immune systems, they are more susceptible to infections and complications. Therefore, infection control measures, such as regular handwashing and limited exposure to visitors, are crucial to safeguard their health.
With the advances in modern medicine, the survival rates of preemies have significantly improved. However, potential long-term health challenges, such as respiratory difficulties, vision problems, cognitive delays, or developmental concerns, are still associated with premature birth. Therefore, regular follow-up visits with medical professionals and targeted interventions, such as physical therapy or early intervention programs, are often recommended to address any ongoing health or developmental issues in preemies.
