Pontine capillary telangiectasias, also known as capillary telangiectasias of the pons, are a medical condition characterized by abnormally dilated blood vessels in the brainstem region called the pons. The pons is a vital part of the brain that controls a range of functions, including sensory and motor pathways.
In this condition, the small blood vessels in the pons become enlarged and swollen, resulting in the formation of numerous small tangles or clusters of abnormal blood vessels. These structures, called telangiectasias, can vary in size and severity among affected individuals.
