Platannas, also known as platanna frogs or African clawed frogs, are a species of aquatic amphibians native to Sub-Saharan Africa. Scientifically classified as Xenopus laevis, these medium-sized frogs belong to the family Pipidae.
Platannas are characterized by their unique physical features. They have webbed hind feet, which are equipped with sharp, black claws, thus the name "clawed frogs." They possess a smooth skin that varies in color, ranging from gray to olive green, allowing them to blend in with their surroundings. Their eyes are positioned on top of their heads, enabling them to spot prey even when submerged in water.
