Percylite is a rare mineral that is a complex borate hydroxide. It was first discovered in the United States and is named after the American geologist John Percival. It is typically found in association with other borate minerals in borate deposits.
Percylite has a chemical composition of (Mg,Fe^2+)_3(H_3O)_2[B_4O_2(OH)_10]·4H_2O. It forms as translucent to transparent prismatic crystals that often exhibit a vitreous luster. The color of percylite can vary, ranging from colorless to pale pink or yellow, but it is most commonly found as white or pale gray. It has a relatively low hardness, measuring around 2.5 on the Mohs scale.
In terms of its physical properties, percylite has a monoclinic crystal system and a perfect cleavage along the {100} plane.
