Pauli Murray, born as Anna Pauline Murray, was an African American civil rights activist, lawyer, writer, and priest. Born on November 20, 1910, in Baltimore, Maryland, Murray fought consistently for racial and gender equality throughout her life.
Murray was an influential figure in the Civil Rights Movement and was known for her contributions to the legal fight against segregation. She was one of the founders of the National Organization for Women (NOW) in 1966 and served as a key strategist in challenging discriminatory laws through her work as a lawyer.
