Paul of Tarsus, also known as the Apostle Paul or Saint Paul, was a significant figure in early Christian history. Born around AD 5 in Tarsus, which is now present-day Turkey, he was originally known as Saul. He became a zealous Pharisee who actively persecuted early Christians before experiencing a transformative encounter with Jesus Christ.
Paul is highly regarded for his influential role in spreading the teachings of Jesus and shaping the theology of Christianity. He is considered one of the most important figures in the development of early Christian doctrine and the expansion of the faith beyond Jewish communities.
Following his conversion, Paul dedicated his life to evangelizing and establishing Christian communities throughout the Roman Empire. He undertook several missionary journeys, travelling extensively to regions such as Asia Minor, Greece, and Rome. Paul's numerous letters, or Epistles, written to various Christian communities and individuals, constitute a significant portion of the New Testament.
