Opiliones, commonly known as harvestmen or daddy longlegs, is an order of arachnids that belongs to the class of arachnids called Arachnida and the subclass of arachnids called Pentastomida. They are distinct from spiders and scorpions, though superficially they may resemble spiders due to their long, thin legs.
Harvestmen are easily distinguishable from spiders by their unique body structure, which consists of a single fused body segment rather than the two main divisions of a spider's cephalothorax and abdomen. They have a rounded, oval-shaped body with long and slender legs that radiate from the central body. Typically, harvestmen have eight legs; hence, their name, which is derived from the Old English word for "one who reaps or harvests."
