Neve Shalom Synagogue, also known as Şalom Synagogue, is a prominent Jewish house of worship located in Istanbul, Turkey. The term "neve shalom" is derived from the Hebrew language, where "neve" means "abode" or "residence," and "shalom" translates to "peace." Thus, Neve Shalom Synagogue translates to "Residence of Peace Synagogue."
The Neve Shalom Synagogue holds great historical and cultural significance as it serves as the main Ashkenazi synagogue in Istanbul. It was inaugurated in 1951 in the Karaköy district, where a significant Jewish population resides. The synagogue was constructed to replace another synagogue that had been destroyed in a fire. Designed by architect Elio Ventura and constructed in the Art Deco style, Neve Shalom is admired for its stunning architecture and interior decoration.
