This type of tumor typically develops alongside or within a peripheral nerve, most commonly in the head, neck, and extremities.
Neurilemmomas are usually slow-growing, encapsulated masses that can vary in size from a few millimeters to several centimeters. They are often solitary, but multiple tumors can occasionally occur simultaneously, particularly in patients with a genetic condition called neurofibromatosis type 2.
