Narcissus mosaic virus (NMV) is a plant virus that primarily affects various members of the Narcissus genus, which includes popular garden flowers such as daffodils. It belongs to the family Potyviridae, which comprises a large group of plant viruses.
The virus is characterized by its ability to cause mosaic-like patterns or mottling on the leaves of infected plants. These patterns result from the virus disrupting normal chlorophyll production and distribution in the leaf cells. Initially, infected leaves display light green or yellowish areas that eventually progress into irregularly shaped dark green or brown mosaic patterns. Infected flowers may also show discoloration, distortion, or reduced quality.
