The name "Mount Simeon" is derived from Saint Simeon Stylites the Elder, a renowned ascetic who lived on top of a pillar in the area during the 5th century AD.
The district itself is characterized by its hilly terrain and is known for its historical and cultural significance. It is home to various archaeological sites, religious structures, and architectural landmarks. One of the most prominent attractions in the area is the Church of St. Simeon Stylites, which was built in the 5th century and was once one of the largest churches in the world.
