Monomorphic adenoma, also known as a pleomorphic adenoma, is a type of benign tumor that commonly develops in the salivary glands. Monomorphic adenomas are usually painless and grow slowly over time. They are the most common type of salivary gland tumor, accounting for approximately 90% of all such cases. The most common treatment for monomorphic adenomas is surgical removal, through either a partial or complete excision of the affected salivary gland. Regular follow-up examinations are important due to the possibility of recurrence or malignant transformation.
