This disease predominantly occurs in Southeast Asia, Northern Australia, and parts of South America, where the bacterium is naturally found in soil and water. It can be contracted through inhalation, ingestion, or direct contact with contaminated soil or water.
The symptoms of melioidoses can vary widely, ranging from mild to severe. In some cases, individuals may remain asymptomatic, while others may develop acute or chronic infections.
