Etymology of MARMALISE
The word marmalise is derived from the French word marmaliser, which itself comes from marmelade. Marmelade originally referred to a quince preserve that was popular in medieval Europe. This term then evolved to include other fruit preserves as well. Over time, marmaliser emerged as a verb in French meaning to make marmalade. It later found its way into English as marmalise in the early 19th century, with a figurative sense of to crush or to defeat thoroughly.
