Llywelyn ap Gruffudd was a Welsh prince who ruled during the late 13th century. His name translates to "Llywelyn, son of Gruffudd" in English. Llywelyn belonged to the royal House of Aberffraw, which held the title of Prince of Gwynedd and dominated much of Wales during this period. He is often referred to by his more commonly known name, Llywelyn the Last.
Llywelyn ap Gruffudd was born in 1223 and ascended to power in 1258 following the death of his uncle, Dafydd ap Llywelyn. He proved to be a skilled and formidable ruler, successfully expanding his territories in Wales and gaining recognition from other European powers.
During his reign, Llywelyn ap Gruffudd faced numerous conflicts with the English crown, particularly with King Edward I.
