King Rummy is a popular card game that belongs to the Rummy family of games. It is typically played with two to six players using a standard deck of 52 playing cards. The objective of the game is to form sets and runs of cards in order to be the first player to reach a predetermined number of points, usually 100 or 500.
The game begins with each player being dealt a certain number of cards, typically 13. The remaining deck is placed face-down on the table to form the stockpile, and the top card of the stockpile is turned face-up to start the discard pile.
During their turn, players have the option to draw a card either from the stockpile or the discard pile. They must then discard one card of their choice onto the discard pile. The goal is to gradually meld cards into valid combinations, such as sets (three or four cards of the same rank) and runs (three or more consecutive cards of the same suit). Once a player has formed a valid meld, they can lay it down on the table. The game continues with players taking turns until one player has no cards left in their hand.
Points are assigned to the remaining cards in the players' hands. Face cards (King, Queen, and Jack) carry a value of 10 points each, while numbered cards hold their face value. The first player to reach the predetermined number of points becomes the winner.
