Etymology of HESSITE
The word hessite is derived from the name of Johan August Brögger, a Swedish mineralogist, who discovered the mineral in 1868. Brögger named the mineral hessit after Dr. Germain Henri Hess, a Russian-Swiss chemist famous for his work on thermochemistry. Over time, the spelling of the mineral's name evolved to hessite.
