Hemangiopericytoma is a rare and potentially malignant tumor originating from the pericytes, which are specialized cells that surround the capillaries and small blood vessels. It belongs to a group of tumors known as soft tissue sarcomas because it arises from the connective tissue cells that provide support and structure to the body.
Hemangiopericytomas most commonly develop in the extremities, such as the lower limbs, but they can also occur in other parts of the body, including the pelvis, head, and neck.
